France finally has a new prime minister, but there is no reason to believe that Michel Barnier will be able to lead a fully functional executive. The republican front that with great cohesion stopped the far right at the polls has not maintained its spirit of solidarity in order to configure a sensible exercise of power. The appointment of Barnier is a mistake by Emmanuel Macron that does not reflect the balance of the front that defeated the far right. The left bloc must also be condemned for not having assumed a more dialoguing attitude in the process. It had arguments to claim leadership and influence, not to impose its plans, as it sought to do. A double game of intransigence has led to a bad place.
