Erzincan Airport was named after the late Yıldırım Akbulut, the former Prime Minister and Speaker of the Parliament.

Referring to the importance of Akbulut’s actions, Karaismailoğlu said, “We changed the name of Erzincan Airport to Erzincan Yıldırım Akbulut Airport with the Presidential Decision to keep the name of the late Yıldırım Akbulut, the former Prime Minister and Speaker of the Parliament, alive forever.” said.

Karaismailoğlu stated that international flights to 60 destinations in 50 countries increased to 329 destinations in 127 countries, making Turkey the country that flies to the most destinations in the world by air.

Speaking on behalf of the family at the name change ceremony, Yıldırım Akbulut’s daughter Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Kırca also reminded that her father worked from his youth to his last moments to serve his country and state, and that he held many honorable missions. Kırca expressed that they are proud of him as his family.
