Lefkosha does not accept the attempts of Greece and the Greek part of Cyprus to block the exit of the Turkish Republic of Cyprus (TRNC) to the Mediterranean Sea.
The President of the TRNC Ersin Tatar told reporters about this, commenting on the maximalist claims of Greece and the Greek part of Cyprus on maritime jurisdiction.
Greece and the Greek part of Cyprus have developed a certain policy to block the exit of the TRNC to the Mediterranean Sea, to trample the rights of Lefkosha in the seas, the president recalled.
“Such a policy is not acceptable for the TRNC. We will resist to the last, ”Tatar said.
The President of the TRNC thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his support, including at the session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
“Neither I nor the Turkish Cypriots could have waged this struggle alone,” the president said.
According to Tatar, the Greeks found a way out in the context of the Lausanne Treaty and transferred all the islands that once belonged to the TRNC under their sovereignty in the Aegean Sea.
“Unfortunately, contrary to the Lausanne Treaty, they are talking about 12 miles. The same understanding applies to the entire Eastern Mediterranean. That is, they want to say that “there are no Turkish Cypriots in Cyprus.” Claims for maritime jurisdiction, according to which the entire island belongs to the Greek part of Cyprus, are unacceptable, ”added the President of the TRNC.
Further, Tatars recalled that Erdogan considers his position on the Cyprus settlement to be correct, according to which the path to peace on the island lies through the creation of two states for two peoples.
“It’s clear what a federation is. Under a federation, the majority governs a minority; over time, Turkish Cypriots are no longer considered in the EU, where there is no Turkey. At the same time, this means Turkey’s withdrawal from Cyprus. In this regard, the issue with the “federation” is closed for me, “Tatar added.
