Football superstar Erling Haaland enters the world of video games thanks to a new partnership with the popular mobile game Clash of Clans. In a football-themed seasonal event, the famous Norwegian striker will take on the role of the ‘Barbarian King’, one of the game’s main characters. This is the first time a character based on a real person has been introduced in Clash of Clans, a game that has over two billion downloads. The event will see Haaland not only as a playable character, but also the star of a cinematic-style trailer, complete with a custom soundtrack, which shows the footballer interacting with the game’s characters before being transported into the animated world of Clash of Clans. The trailer and other exclusive details will be available in the App Store.
Starting May 1st, fans will be able to play as Haaland and enjoy numerous soccer-themed features coming to the game throughout the month, including special troops and medal events. In an additional challenge, players will also have the opportunity to challenge Haaland’s village in the game. “It’s been hard to keep a secret, but I’m thrilled to finally be able to talk about this epic partnership with Clash of Clans,” said Erling Haaland. “I’ve been a big fan of the game for a long time and know every detail of it, so appearing as a playable character is really cool.”
Stuart McGaw, the general manager of Clash of Clans, commented: “When we heard that Erling Haaland was a fan of our game and wanted to collaborate with us, it was truly a dream. Our team did everything we could to bring one of the best athletes in the world, in the world of gaming, so that our players could enjoy a truly special event.”
