Relations between Turkey and the United States are far from the desired level. This was stated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in an interview with journalists in Istanbul.
The Turkish leader drew attention to Washington’s support for terrorist structures in the region.
“Unfortunately, relations between Turkey and the United States, as two NATO allies, are far from the desired level. The fact is, Washington is arming terrorists in the region. The United States is currently providing very impressive support to terrorist organizations, ”the Turkish leader said.
The Turkish leader further commented on the situation in Syria and the upcoming visit to Russia.
“I have serious expectations for negotiations with Mr. [Владимиром] Putin in Sochi. The regime in Syria, unfortunately, has become a hotbed of threat in southern Turkey. We expect from Mr Putin, more precisely from Russia, different positions in the light of the solidarity of our countries. Our joint struggle should continue in the south as well, ”Erdogan said.
According to the head of state, Ankara seeks to bring bilateral relations with Russia to a qualitatively new level.
The goal is to bring the trade turnover to $ 100 billion, Erdogan stressed.
