Erdogan and Putin discuss bilateral relations and developments in Afghanistan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, ways to strengthen relations between the two countries and regional issues, foremost among which are developments in Afghanistan.

This is what emerges from a telephone interview held on Saturday between the two Presidents, according to a statement released by the communication department of the Turkish Presidency.

Erdogan said Turkey could take responsibility for securing and operating Kabul airport in the future, if the right conditions are in place.

The two Presidents have agreed to coordinate on the relationship to be established with the government that will be formed in Afghanistan during the new phase.

The Turkish President stressed the need to form an inclusive government that reflects the diversity of the Afghan people.

Erdogan and Putin offer each other condolences following the deaths of the crew of a Russian water bomber that crashed while participating in firefighting operations in southern Turkey .
