Elon Musk – the richest man in the world and one of the men closest to Donald Trump, president-elect of the United States – has changed his name on the social network X, of which he is the owner. Now he calls himself on what was Twitter as “Kekius Maximus”, a modification that has unleashed all kinds of speculation about the reasons that led him to make this decision.
The tycoon, who once wanted to name one of his children X Æ A-12, has not given any explanation regarding the name or the new profile image in which the character ‘Pepe the Frog’ is shown. This is a meme that has been used for years by far-right groups, wearing Roman military clothing and holding what appears to be a video game console.
Musk’s name change in X has had repercussions in the world of cryptocurrencies, making the value of a memecoin(digital currencies inspired by Internet memes) that share the same name skyrocket, as reported by Europa Press. It is not known if Musk has crypto assets of this type in his possession. DogecoinIt has been another cryptocurrency that has fluctuated with the tycoon’s winks.
The name “Kekius” appears to be a Latinization of “kek”, a word that refers to a ‘laugh out loud’ laugh popular among video game players that is also often associated with the alt-right. “Kek” is also the name of the ancient Egyptian god of darkness, who is sometimes depicted with the head of a frog.
