Electrolux, a Swedish household appliance brand, presented its new smart hi-tech range dedicated to garment care, which aims to limit the environmental impact and at the same time make clothes last longer. The 600-700-800-900 series for washing machines, 700-800 for washer-dryers and 600-700-900 for dryers will be introduced on the Italian market. Electrolux has found that in Europe each person throws away on average over 6.5 kg of clothes per year: the majority (87%) ends up in incinerator or landfill: this is therefore almost 5 million tonnes of clothing disposed of annually on our continent, and many of the reasons are linked to laundry care. Accumulation of clothing, fading of colors and wear and tear of fabrics are among the main reasons for disposal, as are stains, particularly on children’s clothing. It is estimated that some clothing is discarded after just seven times it has been worn.
Electrolux said the UltraQuick 59/49/39min function allows for the complete removal of over 50 common stains, such as ketchup, gravies and sauces, all at 30°C and with a cycle lasting less than an hour. This result is achieved thanks to a special system that premixes and distributes the detergent and softener in a uniform way before they reach the drum. Available on 800 Series and 900 Series washing machines and 800 Series washer dryers, the UltraQuick program can be optimized for mixed daily cotton and synthetic loads, and can also save up to 30% energy. “In 2020, textile consumption in Europe had on average the fourth highest impact on the environment and climate change from a global lifecycle perspective,” comments Sarah Schaefer, Vice-President Sustainability Electrolux Group. “Prolong Garment life of just nine months offers significant benefits, but we want to help people go further. We have set ourselves the goal of doubling the lifespan of garments and our new range of smart, easy-to-use appliances is a useful step forward towards this goal.”
The new models feature a DynamicDisplay screen available for washing machines, dryers and washer-dryers, which allows for simplified navigation and offers personalized guidance. Through this display the appliance provides practical suggestions. By customizing the settings, you can also quickly access your favorite wash cycles. A cleanly designed control panel focuses attention on functions and features that can improve efficiency and optimize resource use. All functions are also accessible and navigable through the new Electrolux app. In fact, consumption data is provided by connecting the appliance to the app. The latter work together to guide users towards more efficient and informed choices. Electrolux’s new SmartSelect function intuitively guides users to save time, energy and water. Available on some models of washing machines and dryers of the 700-800-900 Series, it adjusts the cycle according to needs.
As for washing machines, once the desired program has been selected, SmartSelect provides feedback, adjusts duration and temperature to help users save time and resources. With one click, Electrolux says, SmartSelect can save up to 80% energy, 50% time and 20% water. Finally, SmartSave is the new function present on the 900 Series dryers that allows you to choose between faster drying or reduced energy consumption. “According to our scientific approach and Life Cycle Assessments, up to 85% of an appliance’s global climate impact over its lifetime is generated when it is in use,” adds Sarah Schaefer. “We want to do our best to help consumers navigate the best options for caring for their clothes using smart technology and design.” The new range of Electrolux washing machines, tumble dryers and washer-dryers will be available across Europe from June 2024.
