Congress urged Election Commission to take action against PM Modi:Congress on Monday met the Election Commission and demanded action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congress has expressed its objection to the Prime Minister’s recent statement in Rajasthan, in which Modi not only claimed that the Congress manifesto talks about calculating the gold of mothers and sisters and distributing it, but also that Also alleged that Muslims will have the first right in this partition. According to Congress, it has complained to the Election Commission (ECI) that PM Modi’s statement is against the rules and regulations in which allegations and statements on religious grounds are banned during elections. Senior Congress leaders Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Gurdeep Singh Sappal have gone to the Election Commission and lodged a complaint in this regard on behalf of the party.
Commission should take concrete action against Modi: Congress
Congress leader and senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi told the media that the Congress has demanded from the Election Commission to take concrete action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, because in his speech during the election campaign in Rajasthan, he had said ‘people should be discriminated against on the basis of religion’. But by making ‘malicious’ statements that create division and enmity, there has been a clear violation of the election code of conduct. On Monday, the Congress delegation led by Singhvi met the Election Commission and lodged its complaint on many issues including Modi’s remarks. Speaking to journalists after meeting the commission, Singhvi said, “We have made a total of 17 complaints.” All these complaints are serious and attack the basic principles of the country’s Constitution. We hope that concrete and clear steps will be taken as soon as possible.

The Prime Minister of the country should not make such statements: Congress
Singhvi said that the Prime Minister of the country should not have given such statements. The Congress leader said that those parts of his speech have also been shared on the social media handles of PM Modi himself. Singhvi said, “He is the Prime Minister of this country. I respect him… I will tell him with folded hands that he should not make such statements and the Election Commission should take immediate action on this. You all know this statement. This is published on their official handle. This was said in Rajasthan during the campaign.. I consider it vulgar. Will not repeat. But I will remind you of its four-five elements, which we have placed before the Election Commission. In this, there is a clear description of a community, a religion, with its name… It has been very clearly said that that community can and will grab the resources of this country. It was said that Congress will give such resources to the people of that community, that religion…that community and that religion have been linked with infiltrators. This was said in very clear words, which are in front of everyone.” Singhvi alleged that in his speech, PM Modi also mentioned many established symbols of Hinduism in India, an example of which is Mangalsutra and also said that it could be attacked.

PM Modi’s speech an attack on the identity of the Constitution: Congress
Congress alleged that the Prime Minister has directly violated Section 123 of the Representation of the People Act, which does not allow any statement on the basis of religion during elections. Singhvi said that the PM’s statement is also a violation of all the circulars issued repeatedly by the Election Commission, in which making allegations on the basis of religion is clearly prohibited. Singhvi alleged that PM Modi’s election speech is an attack on the identity of the Indian Constitution. He said, “The Indian Constitution says even before the Bommai case that secularism is an integral part of the basic structure of our Constitution. This means that you cannot change it even by amending the Constitution. You are harming democracy by making such statements that increase mutual animosity and the remedy for this lies only with the Election Commission..therefore..it is a question of the credibility of India, the question of the credibility of our Constitution. There is a question of credibility of the post of our Prime Minister. “There is a question of credibility of our Election Commission.” Congress said that in such cases, the same action as the Commission takes against common people, the same action and restrictions should be imposed in this case also, no matter how big the person is. Singhvi said that this is a question mark on the constitutional identity of the country. This is a test of the Election Commission.

What did PM Modi say?
PM Modi, who is busy campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections, while targeting the Congress in the election rally in Banswara, Rajasthan on Sunday said, “Look at the manifesto of Congress this time. What Congress has said in its manifesto is worrying and serious. And this is their attempt to bring the ideology of Maoism down to earth. He has said that if Congress government is formed, everyone’s property will be surveyed. How much gold our sisters have will be investigated and calculated. There is silver in our tribal families. How much silver is there will be calculated. How much space do the government employees have, what is there, where is the money, where is the job, it will be investigated…Not only this, what is said next…this gold belongs to the sisters…and the property. Yes, it will be distributed equally to everyone… Do you accept this… Does the government have the right to confiscate your property… Does your property, the property earned by your hard work, be taken away? Does the government have the right to grope… In the lives of my mothers and sisters, gold is not just for show, it is linked to their self-respect… Their Mangalsutra is not an issue of gold or price. .It is connected with the dreams of his life…You are talking about snatching it in your manifesto…You will take the gold, distribute it to everyone…And earlier when his government was in power, he had said that the country’s Muslims have the first right on property…this means, to whom will they collect the property and distribute it? Will we distribute it to those who have more children? Will we distribute it to the infiltrators? Will your hard-earned money be given to the infiltrators? Do you agree with this? This Congress manifesto is saying that those mothers -We will calculate the sisters’ gold… will get information about it and then will distribute that property… and will distribute it to those to whom Manmohan Singh’s government had said that Muslims have the first right on the property. This is the thinking of urban Naxals, my mothers and sisters, they will not let even your Mangalsutra escape.”
