The National Commission on the State Language and Language Policy under the President of Kyrgyzstan has developed a new draft constitutional law “On the State Language”.

The bill provides for the spread of the Kyrgyz language in all spheres of public life.

The background to the draft law states that the Kyrgyz language is the language of the titular population of independent Kyrgyzstan and one of the most ancient languages ​​in which outstanding cultural values ​​were formed.

The draft states that the status of Kyrgyz as an official language is enshrined in the constitution.

The establishment of the status of the Kyrgyz language as the state language in the Constitution and the definition by the proposed draft of the procedure for its wide and full-fledged use as a state language in all spheres of state and public life provide the basis for the preservation of the identity of the Kyrgyz people and the development of national culture, improvement of language policy at the appropriate level, the draft says.

Russian is also the official language in Kyrgyzstan. A new draft on the Kyrgyz language, after approval in parliament, will be presented to President Sadyr Japarov.
