On January 12, Dong Thap University met Can Tho University in the final match of the group stage, qualifying round of the Southwest football tournament. Adolescent Vietnamese students 3rd – 2025 THACO cup (TNSV THACO cup 2025).
Through 2 matches, Dong Thap University had 2 draws with a score of 0-0 against Mekong University and Nam Can Tho University. Therefore, the final match of the group stage is very important for this team, only winning can continue to the semi-finals.
Dong Thap University students traveled hundreds of kilometers to Can Tho Stadium to cheer for the home team in the Southwestern qualifying round of the TNSV THACO cup 2025 football tournament.
The match with Can Tho University is not easy, because this is a team with good results in the previous 2 seasons and has the advantage of being close to Can Tho Stadium, with a lot of fans. Dong Thap University anticipated this so they gave the players very meaningful support. Many school leaders and lecturers came to Can Tho Stadium to watch this match. Especially the presence of Associate Professor-Dr. Ho Van Thong, Principal of Dong Thap University.

Cheer wholeheartedly for the colors of the national flag
Besides, Dong Thap University also actively mobilizes students to support the home team. The school “played big” by equipping 6 buses to transport nearly 200 students through Can Tho Stadium. Even though the distance is quite far (nearly 100 km), the school’s fans still bring many drums, vuvuzelas, flags, banners and wear uniforms to show their spirit for the national colors.
You didn’t seem tired at all even though it took more than 2 hours to drive. Dong Thap University’s fans’ area is always bustling with drums, trumpets, and passionate cheers. Although the number was not as large as Can Tho University fans, they created a lively and balanced atmosphere in the stands.
Nguyen Thi Diem, a fan of Dong Thap University, shared: “This is the first time Dong Thap University has participated in the football tournament. Adolescent Students should receive a lot of attention from fans. I often get car sick but I’m still determined to follow along to cheer, because there’s a player I like on the team.”

After 80 minutes of play, Dong Thap University drew 0-0 with Can Tho University, through which both teams had to regretfully bid farewell to the tournament. Dong Thap University fans stayed for a long time to comfort the players, many of them could not hold back their tears. In particular, when the Can Tho University players came to thank them, all Dong Thap University fans simultaneously stood up and gave their team a round of sympathetic applause.
Although Dong Thap University Team has stopped, the efforts of the players and the beautiful images of the fans will continue to spread at the TNSV THACO cup 2025 football tournament.
Qualifying schedule for the Southwest region
The qualifying round of the 3rd Vietnamese Youth Football Tournament – 2025 THACO Cup has 66 teams that will be divided into 6 groups according to geographical area from December 28, 2024 to January 18, 2025. Specifically, including the northern area (from December 30, 2024 – January 10, 2025 at Water Resources University yard); Central Coast region (from January 6 – January 12, 2025 at Military Region 5 yard – Da Nang); South Central and Central Highlands regions (January 10 – January 18, 2025 at Nha Trang University yard); Southeast region (January 4 – January 12, 2025 at Bau Thanh Stadium, Ba Ria – Vung Tau); Southwest region (January 8 – January 17, 2025 at Can Tho Stadium) and Ho Chi Minh City region (December 28, 2024 – January 15, 2025 at Ton Duc Thang University stadium) to select 11 teams along with the home team Ton Duc Thang University. Duc Thang competes in the final round of the tournament from March 1 to March 16, 2025.
