Amidst the controversy arising due to social media post, Diljit Dosanjh gave his clarification. While sharing the post on social media, Diljit wrote, whether “Punjab” is written as “PUNJAB” or “PANJAB”, both mean the same. He further said, “PANJAB” means five rivers, and is linked to the old pronunciation of English. He wrote in his post that every time he has to try to prove that he loves India. He said that if the flag is not visible in any of his posts. So it is misinterpreted.
What is the controversy?
Actually, this controversy started when Diljit Dosanjh wrote “PANJAB” in the caption while sharing a video from Chandigarh. The controversy grew because after the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, the English spelling of Punjab in Pakistan became “PANJAB” and that of India became “PUNJAB”. In his clarification, Diljit also mentioned “PANJAB University”, which was earlier in Lahore and later shifted to Chandigarh. Its name was kept the same as it was before partition.
