Dhoni is a wine that grows stronger with age; Did you think it was going to fall?

“Mahendra Singh Dhoni is suffering from nerves. As we age, the body does not reach where the mind reaches. Shortballs have become a weakness of Dhoni. All the fast bowlers are now bouncing against Dhoni …! ” These are the words of former Kiwis all-rounder Scott Styris during the clash between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals in the preliminary round of the 2021 IPL. In that match, Dhoni faced 27 balls and scored only 18 runs. Naturally, Chennai failed and Dhoni was brutally ridiculed. Most people have ruled that Dhoni is the best Test batsman in India.

Reply to critics

Within a few days, Chennai and Delhi clashed again. The qualifier is more important than the league match! Chennai needed 24 off 11 balls to win. Avesh Khan was bowling. Dhoni at the batting crease too! It was almost time for Delhi to win.

Avesh has decided to use the new theory that Dhoni can be restrained if he throws a short ball. The fact that the boundary on the leg side was too long also influenced that strategy. But the ball of excitement crashed into the gallery above the cow corner! Sixer! All you need now is 13 runs off 6 balls!

A genius who survives stress

Moin Ali was bowled by Tom Curran in the first ball of the last over. But that did not matter to Dhoni. Three more boundaries flowed from that bat. It was poetic justice that the last four were born in a shortball. Chennai won the final and entered the final! It has been many years since I started watching cricket. I have not been able to find a player who is darker than Dhoni. Is there anyone in history who can beat Dhoni in the fight against pressure and win !?

Return from despair

The 2021 IPL season has been a disappointment for batsman Dhoni. The only consolation was finishing the match against Hyderabad with a six. In such a scenario, even the die-hard fans would not have thought that Dhoni would have batted before Jadeja in the qualifiers. What if Dhoni had lost to Rishabh Pant’s team? How much blame would he have had to hear !? But Dhoni was the epitome of confidence. He was sure he would not fail! Dhoni knew his hands would not shake!

How many contexts

There have been many instances like this in Dhoni’s career! Remember the innings Dhoni played in the 2011 World Cup final? Dhoni had the courage to step down ahead of Yuvraj Singh, who was in excellent form. That courage is what gave India the World Cup! Ahead of the 2016 Asia Cup final, Bangladesh fans insulted Dhoni on social media. Bangalore pacer Thaskin Ahmed Dhoni’s edited photo goes viral. But India itself won the Asia Cup. Dhoni hit two sixes to break Bangladesh’s heart.

Superhero in cricket

All this is a kind of heroism not even seen in Bollywood movies. But critics disagree. For them, Dhoni is just a man who jumps at the chance and steals credit. I have only one thing to say to them. Few people have the courage to jump through stressful situations. You do not have the permission required to post. For that, you have to play well and win the team. Dhoni has also been credited with playing with Veer. There is no point in being jealous.

Has not fallen

I saw a video on CSK’s Facebook page a few days ago. A yellow-haired fan stands next to a picture of Dhoni. The caption of the film was a line from Subramanya Bharathi’s famous poem. Its Malayalam translation is-

“Did you think I was going to fall …!”
