In the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanded a Central Act to ban cow slaughter. BJP member Kirori Lal Meena demanded to declare cow as national animal along with enactment of a central law to ban cow slaughter during Zero Hour. He demanded through special mention that cow is worshiped in Sanatan and Hinduism.
The BJP member further said that, cow is an integral part of Indian culture and has the status of mother. He said that in such a situation, due to cow-slaughter, social harmony starts getting affected. BJP’s Mahesh Poddar demanded an early announcement of a policy to promote the use of bio-ethanol. He said that while foreign exchange is spent on the purchase of petroleum, its use also increases pollution. He said that in such a situation, if the use of bio-ethanol is promoted, then farmers will also get benefit.
On the other hand, Vishwambhar Prasad Nishad of Samajwadi Party (SP) demanded amendment in the crop insurance scheme only through special mention. On the other hand, YSR Congress member Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose demanded fulfillment of the promises made during the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Biju Janata Dal member Sasmit Patra raised the issue related to the problem of Left Wing Extremism in the country through special mention.
