The services of Delhi Metro have been restored for the general public from Monday, June 7. According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), these services will now be restored with 50 percent seating capacity.
Along with this, DMRC has said, “On Monday, only half of the available trains will be put into service, on different lines whose frequency will be around 5 to 15 minutes.” later, the number of trains will be increased in a gradual manner.
According to news agency ANI, a DMRC official said on Sunday, “From tomorrow, both smart card and token will be allowed for commuting in Delhi Metro. However, keeping in view the contactless communication, priority will be given to smart cards.
The official also clarified that there will be no change in the existing 20 percent discount on smart cards, which has been around for a long time.
Let us inform that the services of Delhi Metro were suspended on 10 May amid increasing cases of coronavirus in the national capital. Now along with the relaxation of other restrictions, these services are also being restored.
DMRC had told in a press release on Saturday that to ensure social distancing, passengers would not be allowed to travel standing inside the metro rail till further orders, only 50 percent seating capacity would be allowed in trains.
DMRC has advised people to take extra time for their daily movement. It has also advised the commuters to cooperate with the Metro authorities in ensuring compliance with the COVID Appropriate Practices throughout the journey inside the Metro premises.
Along with this, DMRC has said, “It is advisable to behave COVID appropriately outside the stations, even while waiting for your turn for entry.”
