Presenter José Luiz Datena was so angry with the audience of Brasil Urgente, his program on Band, that he criticized the measurement methods of Kantar Ibope, an institute that measures television numbers.
The outburst began when Datena was informed of the numbers by his director. “Ibope? I don’t care about Ibope. They keep wasting my patience with Ibope. I don’t trust Ibope’s measurement! I don’t believe it. That’s my opinion, not Band’s”, stated the journalist.
For Datena, the measurement is problematic and unclear. The presenter said that the institute’s methods ruin Brazilian television programming as a whole.
“If I were the Band, I would cancel this Ibope right now. I think it’s a very poorly done assessment, which only ruins the program, makes you change the program, no one has ever seen it,” he stated.
Datena even offered money to anyone who takes the device called a peoplemeter, where the viewer indicates what they are watching, to the Band headquarters.
“I’ll offer R$1,000 to whoever brings me here! I’ve already offered R$100,000, but it’s a lot. I’ll pay milão to whoever comes here,” he said.
