CFCFRMS: How Cyber Fraud Management System works
Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System works to deal with serious cases like financial fraud and prevent cyber fraud. Understand the step by step process here.
- In case of being a victim of cyber fraud, the victim should call the national helpline number 1930. According to the official website of I4C, this helpline number 1930 is operated by the respective state police.
- The police operator notes your fraudulent transactions and personal information and enters it as a ticket in the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System. This ticket is sent to the respective banks, wallets and merchants, so that it can be seen to which bank or wallet the money has gone.
- A message (SMS) is also sent to you. The message contains your complaint number. You are also asked to enter complete information on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (https://cybercrime.gov.in). Apart from this, the nodal officer of the bank or financial institution is also informed about this complaint.
- The concerned bank sees this ticket on their dashboard and if the fraudulently withdrawn money is still with them, they put it on hold. If the money has gone to another bank, the ticket is sent to that bank.
- This process will continue until the money is kept from reaching the hands of fraudsters. Information about the steps taken by the concerned bank or financial institution is also given to the state police.

RBI’s advice to avoid fraud
The Reserve Bank of India advises people to remain alert and updated. RBI says that if money is deducted from your bank account without your consent, then immediately inform your bank about it. While doing this, do not forget to take proof of complaint from your bank. According to RBI, in such cases the bank will have to resolve your complaint within 90 days.
If the transaction is due to your negligence, such as you have shared your password, PIN, OTP, etc., you will have to bear the loss unless you inform the same to your bank. If the fraud continues even after you inform the bank, your bank will compensate that loss. If you delay in giving information or complaining to the bank, your loss may increase and this will be decided on the basis of RBI guidelines and your bank’s policy.
