Mauritania decided on Wednesday to reduce the duration of the curfew imposed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, which now extends to 6 hours instead of 10 hours.
Mauritanian government spokesperson Mokhtar Ould Dahi said at a press conference that it had been decided to ease the curfew, from Thursday at 12 a.m. instead of 8 p.m. ‘at 06:00 (local time).
This decision comes following the recent drop in the rate of Covid-19 infection.
The government announced an extension of the curfew hours at the end of July, as part of its fight against the third wave of the pandemic.
In recent weeks, the country has recorded an average of more than 200 daily contaminations. The infection rate halved, however, about a week ago, to 100 infections per day.
According to a latest official report, more than 34,504 people have contracted the coronavirus in Mauritania, including more than 734 deaths and more than 32,289 recoveries.
