Coronavirus in Iran: over 42.5 thousand cases of infection detected per day

The daily increase in deaths due to a novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Iran was 536. The total number of deaths in the Islamic Republic has increased to 95,647.

According to the Iranian Ministry of Health, 42,541 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been identified in the country over the past day. At the same time, 4 865 patients from this number were hospitalized.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Iran has risen to 4,281,217.

6,932 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 are being treated in intensive care units.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the number of those who have defeated the dangerous virus in Iran has reached 3,618,224.

In a country with a population of about 83 million people, 26,790,150 tests have been carried out to date.

The first stage of vaccination was 13 793 310 people, the second – 3 401 487 people.

Thus, a total of 17,294,797 doses of coronavirus vaccines have been applied in the country.


The coronavirus pandemic began with the detection of the first cases of pneumonia of unknown origin in the city of Wuhan in the Hubei province of central China at the end of December 2019.

On December 31, 2019, the Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of unknown pneumonia.

On January 30, WHO recognized the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a public health emergency of international concern.

On February 11, 2020, the disease was named a new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

On March 11, 2020, WHO announced that the outbreak had become a pandemic.
