Coronavirus in Iran: about 14 thousand new cases of COVID-19 identified

The daily increase in mortality due to a novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Iran was 127. The total number of deaths increased to 84,516.

According to the Iranian Ministry of Health, 13,836 new cases of COVID-19 infection were detected in the Islamic Republic over the past day, 1,561 of this number were hospitalized.

The total number of people infected with coronavirus in Iran has risen to 3,232,696.

There are 3,196 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 being treated in intensive care units. Until today, 2,902,140 residents of Iran have been cured of the dangerous virus.

The number of COVID-19 tests performed in Iran, which has a population of about 83 million, has reached 23,806,452.


The coronavirus pandemic began with the detection of the first cases of pneumonia of unknown origin in the city of Wuhan in the Hubei province of central China at the end of December 2019.

On December 31, 2019, the Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of unknown pneumonia.

On January 30, WHO recognized the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a public health emergency of international concern.

On February 11, 2020, the disease was named the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

On March 11, 2020, WHO announced that the outbreak had become a pandemic.
