The total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses given so far in the country crossed the 95 crore mark on Sunday. The Union Health Ministry gave this information. He said that according to the data of the Co-WIN portal, more than 44 lakh doses of vaccine have been given till 7 pm.
The daily vaccination numbers are expected to increase with the final report for the day being compiled by late night. Looking at the pace of vaccination, it is not difficult to guess that India will soon cross the 100 crore mark.
The nationwide vaccination program was launched on 16 January with the first phase immunization of health workers (HCWs). The vaccination of frontline personnel against Covid-19 started from February 2.
The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination started from March 1 for people above 60 years of age and people of 45 years and above suffering from other diseases. The country started vaccination for all people above 45 years of age from 1st April.
The government then decided to expand its vaccination campaign by allowing everyone over the age of 18 to be vaccinated from May 1.
