Alka Lamba’s political journey:
Alka Lamba’s political career has been full of variations. She started her career with the Congress Party and was an MLA from Chandni Chowk assembly constituency. Later, she joined AAP, but in 2019 resigned from the party due to dissatisfaction and rejoined Congress. Presently, she is the President of All India Mahila Congress.
Importance of Kalkaji Seat:
Kalkaji assembly constituency is one of the major seats of Delhi. In the 2015 and 2020 elections, this seat has been held by AAP. Currently, Chief Minister Atishi represents this region. This time, Congress has made the contest on this seat interesting by fielding Alka Lamba.
Election contest:
The contest between Alka Lamba and Atishi has become the center of discussion in Delhi politics. Both the leaders are symbols of women empowerment and play important roles in their respective parties. This contest is not only important for Kalkaji seat, but also reflects the growing role of women in Delhi politics.
Congress Strategy:
This time the Congress party has adopted an aggressive strategy in the Delhi elections. Fielding Alka Lamba from Kalkaji and fielding Sandeep Dixit against Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi seat is part of this strategy. The party aims to regain its lost ground in Delhi, where it had no success in the last two elections.
Atishi’s reaction:
Chief Minister Atishi has not commented directly on Alka Lamba’s candidature, but has expressed confidence that the people of Delhi will repose confidence in her actions and the policies of the AAP government. He said, “The public is seeing the work we have done for the development of Delhi and we are confident that they will give us an opportunity to serve again.”
Election preparation:
Both the parties have intensified campaigning in support of their respective candidates. Efforts are on to woo voters through rallies, public meetings and door-to-door campaigns in Kalkaji area. Election analysts believe that this contest will be very tough and it is a question of prestige for both the parties.
