Prashant Kishor has met Rahul Gandhi and party president Sonia Gandhi several times. Whenever he has met these two leaders, then there is speculation that he will join the Congress, but now the curtain is slowly coming out of it.
According to sources, party president Sonia Gandhi will take a final call on the inclusion of election strategist Prashant Kishor in the Congress and she has also discussed the issue with several senior leaders. Sources said some of these leaders have objected to his joining the party, while others have supported it, as they feel he will be beneficial to the party.
Sources said a group of 23 party leaders, who wrote to Gandhi last year demanding a change in the organisation, have also objected to Kishor joining the Congress. The matter was discussed in a meeting between these leaders. He had recently met Rahul Gandhi amid discussions that Kishor would join the Congress and assume an important role in election management. However, the matter is pending as no final decision has been taken.
Kishor initially worked with the BJP for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He then joined JD(U) and was the party’s vice-president. Kishor had also worked with the Congress during the last assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. He also assisted the party in Punjab and was an advisor to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
