Chennai: A BJP leader has been arrested for spreading communal propaganda on social media. BJP state working committee member in Tamil Nadu R. Kalyanaraman (55) was arrested. Kalyanaram was nabbed by the cyber crime unit of the Chennai police last night after a complaint was lodged against him.

Kalyanaraman has been the subject of controversy in the past for releasing and sharing hateful posts on social media. He had shared the posts insulting people including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s father and former Chief Minister Karunanidhi. The abusive remark against actress and doctor Sharmila was also controversial.

Kalyanaraman mostly shared posts that incite hatred among religious sects. The police decided to proceed with the arrest after a preliminary investigation by the police found that he had posted 18 such tweets in the last two months.
