What is the case against Munawar Faruqui?
Comedian Munawar Faruqui has been released from the Indore Central Jail after being granted interim bail from the Supreme Court in the case of alleged objectionable comments about Hindu deities. Please tell that the top court granted interim bail to Faruqui on Friday.
Even after this, Faruqui could not be released during the day on Saturday. The jail administration had expressed its inability to release, citing a production warrant issued by a Prayagraj court.Â
The authorities, citing the jail manual, claimed that they needed an order from a Prayagraj court or a competent authority of the government to release Farooqui.
What is the matter against Faruqui?
Faruqui was accused of hurting religious sentiments by making allegedly objectionable remarks about Hindu deities during an event. Eklavya Singh Gaur, son of BJP MLA Malini Laxman Singh Gaur, filed a complaint against Faruqui and others.
Faruqui was arrested on January 1. The MLA’s son had lodged a complaint that Faruqui had made objectionable remarks against Hindu deities and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a comedy show at a cafe in Indore on New Year’s Eve.
Kamlesh Sharma, in-charge of Indore’s Tukoganj police station, in an interview himself revealed that the police have not found any evidence against Munawar Faruqui.
In this case, the Madhya Pradesh High Court, in its order on January 28, refused to grant Faruqui bail, saying that it is his constitutional duty to promote harmony.
