Colombia is shining in the Copa America in the United States. Néstor Lorenzo’s team has confirmed its football maturity by taking first place in Group D and, in the process, extending its unbeaten streak to 26 games without knowing defeat. Along with Uruguay, the Tricolor has displayed the best football so far in the continental competition. Aside from the tireless James Rodríguez, captain and conductor, Colombia is entering the quarterfinals as a clear favorite; a team as physical as it is good, decisive in both areas and generous in its effort. Of the three games played so far, the team has only been behind for a period of thirty minutes against Brazil, where it showed solvency in rowing against the current and remained with options to take the three points until the final whistle.
Panama enters the round of the best eight of the tournament as second place in Group C, the result of two wins (Bolivia and the United States) and a loss to Uruguay. Under the direction of the Dane Thomas Christiansen, the Panamanians have become an uncomfortable rival that makes speed and physicality their main virtues. The Central Americans, however, will not have their main figure, midfielder Adalberto Carrasquilla, suspended for two games after receiving a red card in the match against the hosts.
Where to watch Colombia – Panama?
The quarter-final match will take place on Saturday, July 6 at 5:00 p.m. (Colombian time) and can be followed live on RCN, Caracol and DirecTV and Win Sports.
Colombia’s path to the title
If Colombia beats Panama, it will face the winner of the Uruguay-Brazil game in the semifinals at Bank of America Stadium (North Carolina), home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, on Wednesday, July 10 at 7:00 p.m. If the Tricolor makes it to the continental final, the title will be played at Hard Rock Stadium (Miami, Florida) on Sunday, July 14 at 7:00 p.m. Colombian time. On the other side of the draw, Argentina, the reigning champion already in the semifinals, awaits the rival that will emerge from the match between Venezuela and Canada.
