At the end of the AFF Cup 2024, coach Kim Sang-sik returned to Korea on vacation on January 10. Before returning to his hometown, Mr. Kim revealed to Adolescent in an online response: “I miss my family very much. This time when I return to Vietnam, I will bring my wife and daughter with me. Our family will celebrate Lunar New Year in Hanoi.”

Speaking at the press conference after the final victory over Thailand and being crowned champion of the 2024 AFF Cup, coach Kim Sang-sik was very proud of his students’ performance. He affirmed: “This match is a historic match. We had to play in a difficult stadium, go through a difficult match. Thanks to the support of all Vietnamese fans, the team was able to win. Thank you players for not giving up and fighting to the end. I once won the K-League championship. But that is at the club level. With the national team, this is my first championship. It means a lot.”

When he returned to his hometown of Korea for vacation on January 10, responding to the Korean press, Mr. Kim once again emphasized: “I am very happy when the Vietnamese team won the championship of Southeast Asia’s biggest tournament with an undefeated record. The final return match was like a dramatic movie, extremely impressive. There were situations I had never experienced that surprised me, but the whole team and I united and worked together to handle them skillfully. In particular, the second goal lost due to an unsportsmanlike foul by the Thai player was the most dangerous moment, but that situation became the driving force that helped Vietnam win.
I am very proud because to reach the final victory, we went through a difficult journey. How to ensure? Fitness and physical condition for the players is the biggest challenge that we have overcome spectacularly. In less than a month, we had to play 8 matches and travel by plane 4 times. The players and I were both very tired. We had to take care of every detail, from fitness to injuries and nutrition. Vietnamese players are truly strong and patient in overcoming all difficulties without complaining or whining.”
Mr. Kim Sang-sik also emphasized: “My work is still very busy. I want to find new talents to help Vietnamese football compete more strongly in the Asian arena. The 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers are The immediate challenge at the end of this year is the SEA Games. Everything is waiting ahead, so this is just the beginning.”
Mr. Kim will restart his work by continuing to attend matches in the V-League and first division. It is expected that Mr. Kim Sang-sik will come to Hang Day Stadium to watch the match between Hanoi Police team and SLNA on January 18. His vacation days started from January 10, returning to Hanoi on January 17.
