Addressing the program of dedicating three new criminal laws to the nation, he said, “The country’s new judicial code is as comprehensive a document as it is in itself, and the process of making it has also been equally extensive. The hard work of many great constitutionalists and jurists of the country is involved in this. The Home Ministry had sought suggestions regarding this in January 2020. In this, there was suggestion and guidance from the Chief Justices of the country, in this the Chief Justices of the High Court gave full support… All of them brainstormed for years, communicated, put together their experiences, the needs of the country in the modern perspective were discussed.
He said, “There was a deep discussion on the challenges faced by the justice system in the seven decades of independence. The practical aspect of every law was seen. It was tested on future parameters. Then the Indian Judicial Code has come before us in this form. For this, I express my special gratitude to the Supreme Court of the country, the honorable judges, all the High Courts of the country, especially the Haryana and Punjab High Courts… I am confident that this Judicial Code of India, made with everyone’s cooperation, will be a milestone in India’s justice journey. Will prove to be a stone.”
Addressing the program of dedicating three new criminal laws to the nation, PM Modi said, “The Judicial Code is woven with the ideas of equality, harmony and social justice. We have always heard that everyone is equal in the eyes of law, but the practical reality appears to be something else. The poor, weak person was afraid in the name of law. As far as possible he was afraid to step into the court or police station. Now the Indian Judicial Code will work to change this psychology of the society. He will be confident that the law of the country is a guarantee of equality. This is the true social justice which is assured in our Constitution.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that…now in heinous crimes like rape against women, charges will have to be framed within 60 days from the first hearing. It has also been made mandatory to deliver the verdict within 45 days of the start of the hearing. It has also been decided that no case will be adjourned more than twice. The basic mantra of the Indian Judicial Code is citizen priority. These laws are becoming protectors of civil rights, facilitating access to justice. Earlier it was so difficult to get an FIR lodged, but now even a zero FIR has been given a legal form. Now he has got the facility to file a case from anywhere. The copy of the FIR should be given to the victim, he has been given this right. Now even if any case against the accused has to be dropped, it will be dropped only when the victim consents. Now the police will not be able to detain any person as per their wish.”
