The Transitional Military Council in Chad (CMT) unveiled its timetable for the transition period on Thursday.
He notably announced that the inclusive national dialogue could be held over the period from November to December 2021.
The calendar also provides for the holding of elections between June and September 2022, the deadline for the transition which began on April 20 after the death of President Idriss Deby Itno.
The third strategic axis of this roadmap is the strengthening of security and defense which, according to the Chadian authorities, “fall within the ordinary and continuous activities of the State but essential for those linked to the transition”, underlined the Minister. government press release.
The actions provided for in the roadmap examined and adopted on Thursday by the government will cost more than 840 billion CFA francs ($ 1.5 billion) to the transitional government, an envelope which is “to be found in the budget of the State and / or with partners ”, according to the final communiqué of the Council of Ministers.
After taking power on April 20, the president of the Transitional Military Council of Chad, General Mahamat Idriss Deby, addressed his compatriots for the first time on April 27, assuring that “the members of the CMT are soldiers. who have no other ambition than to serve their country loyally and with honor ”.
He further promised Chadians a “government of national reconciliation” and an inclusive national dialogue that “will not evade any subject of national interest”.
He also reiterated his attachment to the holding of “democratic, free and transparent elections as soon as possible” before concluding with a call for “sacred union”.
