Center withdraws VVIP security of TMC leader Rajiv Banerjee, requested himself

New Delhi
The central government withdrew the Z category security cover of former West Bengal minister and Trinamool Congress leader Rajiv Banerjee. Official sources gave this information on Wednesday. It is believed that he himself had requested to withdraw the security provided by the Central Reserve Police Force.

Banerjee (47), after being in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for some time, returned to the Trinamool Congress. He returned to the party on 31 October at a rally organized by Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in Agartala, the capital of Tripura.

Banerjee had contested the last assembly election from Domjur in Howrah district on a BJP ticket but lost to Trinamool Congress leader Kalyan Ghosh. Sources said that the Union Home Ministry withdrew his Z-category central security cover (authorized in West Bengal).
