Coaches have been advised not to use whips to teach martial artists
NTH’s parent’s message is as follows: “Hello teacher Huy. On the night of January 9, 2025, my child (born August 28, 2012) went to learn taekwondo at Seung Ri Club (151/1 Ho Nguyen Trung, Khue Dong Ward, Cam District). Le, Da Nang City (head coach Nguyen Van Kin in charge), when he returned, he said he was beaten by the head coach with a bamboo whip (this coach often beats martial artists like but it was less painful, but the assistant named Quy (2 dan) beat and kicked her very hard when she was lying on her stomach, her whole body was covered with scars (chest, back, buttocks, 2 thighs).
I used my phone to take a photo and reported it to the Da Nang City hotline about physical abuse of children. I took him to be examined at the hospital and took him to Khue Trung Ward Police to work. I have commented on the way to teach martial arts students that using a whip is not recommended (anti-education and violating children’s bodies, because many martial arts students study in elementary and middle school). This morning I took her to the Mother and Child Protection Committee to report.”
Parents are heartbroken because their children are suffering from a serious psychological crisis
In a message sent to VTF leaders, NTH’s parents said: “Since then, he has had a serious psychological crisis, always afraid of being beaten by the coach and assistant coach when he goes back to martial arts, and afraid of going to school. On school, he was beaten by martial arts students at this club when his father clarified everything. He was afraid that he would be beaten when he met the coach and assistant coach at the Khue Trung ward police station. I had to constantly comfort and encourage him At the same time, he transferred him to study and practice at the club other.
Previously, my child studied Teakwon martial arts at An Hai Bac Club – Da Nang with Master Thien (master, 5th dan, Master passed away) and assistant coach Le Tuan Vu, the study period was about more than 5 years (including the translation period). disease) and achieved a 1st degree black belt. After that, my family moved so I took him to study at Seung Ri Club from December 1, 2023 until now, he achieved a 2nd degree black belt. I am a gentle, obedient, small child. I was very upset when he was beaten so brutally just because he did not perform proper martial arts movements. The assistant coach who beat him so brutally was also a 2nd degree black belt.”
The club is at risk of being expelled from VTF, and the taewondo coach will be severely punished
It is known that Seung Ri Club is under the management of the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation (VTF). If the incident is verified as what NTH’s parents denounced, this club will be expelled from VTF.
Individuals involved in the incident will be handled appropriately, legally and professionally. Coaches who beat NTNM martial artists are at risk of having their practicing cards revoked for life and facing other fines from the authorities.
VTF stated its opinion: “The act of using violence in sports training, especially against children, is completely anti-educational and violates the law.”
The authorities will step in to investigate the incident even though the coach wants to resolve it internally with NTNM’s family
