Canadian authorities have officially confirmed the identity of the deceased whose lifeless body was discovered in Lake Osoyoos on August 22, 2023.: This is Carlos Tomás Aranda Burgoin, a Mexican nationalaccording to a report by the Mounted Police.
Carlos Tomás Aranda, 30, originally from Oaxaca, Mexicodisappeared on July 7 after being last seen at the Brar Fruit Stand & Orchard facilities located in the province of British Columbia, Canada.
He had been working on a farm in Osoyoos, near the US border. Following his sudden disappearance, diligent efforts were made to locate him.
Canadian authorities worked closely with the British Columbia Forensic Service to determine the cause of Carlos Tomás’ untimely death. The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
Support and cooperation to find Carlos Aranda
Given the devastating news, the Canadian authorities expressed their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Carlos Tomás Aranda Burgoin.
The victim’s family, for their part, requested assistance from the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) to facilitate their return to Canada and actively participate in the identification process, despite having a genetic profile.
It is expected that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will offer the necessary support to repatriate the remains of Carlos Tomás to Mexico.
Who was Carlos Aranda?
Carlos Tomás Aranda Burgoin graduated from the Development and Tourism career of the Benito Juárez Autonomous University (UABJO) in Oaxaca, according to Infobae.
He then traveled to Canada to work on a farm near the US border.. His sudden disappearance on July 7 led to an exhaustive search, in which various authorities and organizations participated.
The Mexican government, upon learning of his disappearance, extended its support to Carlos’s family. Meetings were held between Mexican and Canadian officials to address the case collectively.
In addition, efforts were made to expand the search area with the assistance of the US Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas.
Throughout the investigation, Carlos’s family remained steadfast in their search for answers. His persistence became evident during a meeting with the Canadian ambassador to Mexico, Graeme C. Clark, where they emphasized his request for his help in locating his missing loved one.
Finally, last Wednesday, August 23, the Canadian Mounted Police reported the discovery of a body in Lake Osoyoos, near the area where Carlos Aranda was last seen.
Identification tests were awaited and finally the Canadian authorities confirmed the identity of the body: it was the Mexican reported missing.
