- Nagwankar was named India’s best referee last season
- Controlled last season’s ISL final
- Currently working as a college teacher
Although he was selected as the best referee in the country last season, refereeing is not Nagwankar’s main job and source of income. Instead, he is a sports teacher at the Sidhora Casulo College in Mapusa, Goa. Nagwankar, who took a job there in June this year, will not be able to access the ISL’s bio-bubble without being granted leave by college authorities.

Earlier, Tejas Nagwankar officiated the final match of the 2020-21 season ISL between ATK Mohan Bagan and Mumbai City FC. He also became the first Indian referee to officiate an ISL final
However, the principal of Caluso College told the Times of India yesterday that they had not blocked Nagwankar’s leave. “Nagwankar is on probation and we will see how much leave he can get,” he said.

However, Nagwankar, who missed the first half of the 2021-22 season ISL, is expected to return to refereeing in the second quarter. It is learned that he is planning to take leave from January 10 to March 10 for this purpose. Nagwankar’s arrival is expected to help raise refereeing standards amid allegations that the quality of refereeing in the eighth season of the ISL is too low.
