Mr. Lim Kimya (73 years old), a former parliamentarian of the dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), was shot dead by a motorcyclist on January 7 when he arrived in the Thai capital Bangkok by bus from Cambodia. along with his French wife. Cambodian police said they arrested the shooting suspect on January 8 and Thailand has requested his extradition.
Cambodian police named the suspect as Ekkalak Pheanoi, while some Thai media said the suspect was Ekkalak Paenoi and a former Thai marine.
“We transferred him to Thai authorities this morning,” Cambodian National Police spokesman Chhay Kim Khoeun told AFP.
According to the sheet Bangkok PostEkkalak Phaenoi was taken from his cell in Phnom Penh around 11 a.m. to the Khlong Luek border checkpoint in Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo province, where Cambodian officials handed the suspect over to their Thai counterparts.
Police Lieutenant General Somprasong Yentuam, assistant national police chief, and police investigators boarded a helicopter to Sa Kaeo to pick up the suspect today.
