Dubai: England advanced to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup with their fourth consecutive victory. England, who beat Sri Lanka by 26 runs, are leading by eight points from four matches. Jose Butler hit six fours and six sixes off 67 balls to give England the lead. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 137, following England’s 163-run target.
Batting first, England lost the toss and opted to bat first, but were bowled out in the final overs. Captain Eoin Morgan (40) also provided excellent support. None of the other batsmen showed any significant improvement. Butler and Morgan put on 112 for the fourth wicket. For Sri Lanka, Vanindu Hasaranga took 3 for 20 in 4 overs and Dushmantha Chameera took 1 for 43 in 4 overs.
In reply, Sri Lanka started well but lost wickets in the middle order. Captain Dasun Shanaka (26) and Vanindu Hasaranga (34) combined for the sixth wicket to give the hosts the lead. But things got easier for England with the dismissal of Hasaranga. Charith Asalenka (21) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (26) were the other players who fought for the team. Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid and Moin Ali took 2 wickets each for England. Chris Vokes and Livingston also took wickets each.
