Burkina Faso: five civilians killed by armed men in the Sahel

At least 5 civilians were killed during the night from Saturday to Sunday, in an attack perpetrated by unidentified armed individuals in the locality of Markoye in the Sahel region, announced the governor of the said region, Colonel-Major Salfo Kaboré. .

The governor confirmed to Omega FM (Private) radio that the victims of this attack are internally displaced persons from the locality of Tin-Akoff in the same region.

After the attack, the attackers took away cattle, according to the same source.

The end of the past week was marked by several security incidents in Burkina Faso.

Indeed, on Saturday two Burkinabè soldiers were killed in the explosion of an improvised explosive device on the Mangodara-Noumoutiédougou axis in the province of Comoé in the west of the country near the border with Côte d’Ivoire.

The same day, a dozen terrorists were “neutralized” in a response by the army and its auxiliaries in the Commune of Pobé-Mengao in the province of Soum in the Sahel of Burkina Faso.

Friday, the army had claimed to have “neutralized”, in air strikes, “several terrorists” in the town of Mansila still in the Sahel.

In recent days, the Burkinabè justice has also launched an operation against suspected fuel traffickers for the benefit of terrorist groups.

Several people were arrested during this operation, according to the prosecution.

Since 2015 Burkina Faso has been facing a rise in terrorist attacks causing numerous victims and more than 1.4 million internally displaced, according to the government.

In addition, the violence has forced some 17,500 people to leave the country since the start of the current year according to the UN.

To date, a state of emergency has been declared in 14 of the country’s 45 provinces, in order to facilitate the fight against terrorism.
