What is a black moon?
A black moon will be visible in the distant sky late tonight. Usually there is only one Amavasya every month, but sometimes such an occasion comes when two Amavasyas occur in the same month. This second astronomical phenomenon is called Black Moon. Regarding the Black Moon, it is being said that the Moon Cycle i.e. the time taken by the Moon to complete its revolution around the Earth is approximately 29.5 days. But the month of February is shorter in terms of days i.e. February has 28 days, due to which the gap between the moon cycle and February gets reduced. That’s why this astronomical event happens. This happens once in a period of 33 months. Sometimes a seasonal black moon also occurs. This occurs by reading four new moons in the Earth’s astronomical season.

When and how will the black moon be visible?
It is being told that this phenomenon of Black Moon will be visible in the sky at the end of the year, late tonight i.e. on 30-31 December. In some parts of the world this black moon will be visible on the night of 30 December. And in some parts it will be visible in the early hours of 31st December.
Black Moon will be at its peak on 30th December 2024 i.e. tonight. People in America will be able to see it today itself, while in Europe, Africa and Asia it will be able to be seen on December 31. Although the Black Moon will not be visible to the naked eye, its effect can be seen.

When will the next black moon be seen?
August 23, 2025: This Black Moon will be the third new moon out of four in a season.
August 31, 2027: Another Black Moon as the second new moon in a calendar month.
