Big accident in Baghpat: 7 killed in stage collapse during Jain Nirvana Festival, more than 75 injured
A major accident took place in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday. A temporary stage built during the Nirvana Laddu festival of Lord Adinath in the ground of Shri Digambar Jain Degree College collapsed, killing 7 devotees, while more than 75 people were injured. There was chaos on the spot after the accident.
The 65 feet high platform was built for the program. It is being told that due to the large number of devotees, the stairs of the stage were broken, causing the people standing below. The fall of the stairs caused a stampede and many people were buried in the rubble.
Those who died in the accident have been identified as Tarspal, Amit, Arun, Usha, Shilpi, Vineet Jain and Kamlesh Jain. The bodies of all the dead have been sent for postmortem. More than 75 people have been injured in the accident, including 15 policemen. The injured have been admitted to different hospitals in the city. The condition of many injured is said to be critical.
The program was being held for the last 25 years. The soil was recently filled at the venue, causing moisture in the ground. The balance of balls deteriorated and the stage collapsed as the number of devotees on the stage increased.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep condolences on the incident. He has instructed the injured to speed up better treatment and relief work. At the same time, Rashtriya Lok Dal president Jayant Chaudhary also expressed grief over the incident and wished the injured to get well soon. Jayant Chaudhary also visited the spot and hospital.
Police and administrative officials are present on the spot. The injured were rushed to the hospital via e-rickshaws and other vehicles. Relief work is being carried out rapidly by the district administration. This incident has put the local people and devotees in deep shock.
