Bharat Bandh | In view of the rising price of petrol and diesel, changes in the GST rules and the increasing interference of foreign companies in the e-commerce business, businessmen and transporters across the country have called India a bad name.
The organization of retail traders claims that in today’s ‘Bharat Bandh’ against GST, about 8 crore traders from all over the country will take part. Also, more than one crore transporters are also with this bandh.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has said on a recent amendment to the GST rules and a day-long strike on the arbitrariness of foreign companies in the e-commerce business that traders are plagued by the complex provisions of GST, hence the shutdown has called.
At the same time, this bandh is also supported by the All India Transport Welfare Association (AITWA). However, AITWA’s protest is about the rising price of petrol and diesel and the e-way bill.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) wrote on Twitter, “8 crore Traders @CAITIndia,1 crore Transporters @aitwa and lacs of Tax Professionals participating in #BharatBandh today as a mark of protest against distorted #GST *SIMPLIFY GST- STOP TAX TERRORISM*.”
Which areas will affect the shutdown
In a statement, CAIT has said that all transport companies across the country will remain closed on Friday. Apart from this, he said that national and state level organizations of small scale industries, hawkers, women entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs themselves and other sectors related to trade will also support the trade-off. The statement said that organizations of chartered accountants and tax lawyers in all states will also support the bandh.
According to AITWA national president Mahendra Arya, all transport companies have been asked to stop serving their vehicles from 6 am to 8 pm. All transport warehouses will put up the Protest Banner here.
CAIT National President BC Bhartia and General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal told that about 1500 small and big organizations from all states across the country, including Delhi, will picket on Friday.
Wholesale and retail markets will also be completely closed today. However, shops selling essential commodities have not been included in the shutdown. Along with this, shops catering to the needs of people in residential areas and colonies will also remain closed. Apart from this, it will not have much effect on the ride car of the common people, because it is only a matter of supporting the vehicles for commercial activities.Â
What is the resentment over GST
According to the national president of CAIT, BC Bhartia, there are many unilateral amendments in the GST rules on December 22 and after that, there is a great anger among businessmen across the country. By these amendments, the tax authorities have been given unlimited powers, especially now any officer can suspend the GST registration number of any trader for any reason, according to his discretion.
He said that such rules will not only increase corruption but officers will be able to harass any businessman.
Samyukt Kisan Morcha also supported the bandh
The farmers, who have been protesting at different borders of Delhi against the three agricultural laws, have also supported the ban of traders. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), which is leading the farmers, has appealed to the farmers to participate peacefully in Friday’s ‘Bharat Bandh’.
