It has been announced by BIS that it will do hallmarking only on 22, 18 and 14 carat gold jewellery. This rule has come into effect from January 1, 2017.

How is the price of gold jewelery decided?

Jewelers also add making costs, which some people call waste fees. It is often calculated in terms of percentage or per gram. Some jewelers do a combination of both methods. They charge per gram after deducting 1% from the current price of gold.
