China renewed on Friday its accusations of the United States of interference in the affairs of the autonomous territory of Hong Kong, according to data recorded by the Beijing Foreign Ministry, since the outbreak of protests in 2019 in Hong Kong .
This is what emerges from a “fact sheet” published by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, containing 102 examples of “American interference” in the territory.
The ministry listed all of the statements and actions Washington took after the protests that erupted in Hong Kong against a bill allowing extradition to China.
The ministry considered that “the American interference”, after these demonstrations, is “a support to the anti-Chinese forces and to the destabilizing forces”.
According to the ministry, “(the United States) provided platforms to disseminate misleading political information and justify the actions of law breakers, by distorting the facts and misleading the public.”
On June 30, 2020, Chinese President Xi Jinping signed the controversial Hong Kong National Security Law, which strengthens the influence of the Beijing government in the Autonomous Region territory.
The law, which aims to counter what China calls “separatist tendencies, conspiracy, terrorism and foreign interference,” came into force after protests that have taken place in the territory since March 2019 against a bill authorizing authorities in the region to extradite wanted persons to China for trial.
Hong Kong manages its internal affairs independently, but is subject to Beijing in matters of foreign and defense policy. Some observers believe that the influence of the Chinese government in Hong Kong is steadily increasing.
