At the close of the market, Barcelona makes cash. The Barça entity has agreed to leave Ilaix Moriba (18 years old) to RB Leipzig and Emerson Royal (22 years old) to Tottenham. After the transfers of Junior Firpo (15 million to Leeds), Todibo (eight million to Nice) and Carles Aleñà (five million to Getafe), Barça tries to mitigate the delicate economic situation they are going through. President Joan Laporta estimated last season’s losses at 450 million.
Ilaix Moriba’s trip to Barcelona is over. The Guinean goes to the Bundesliga in exchange for 16 million euros, plus seven in variables. The midfielder arrived at the Barça youth academy at the age of seven and, in 2019, when he was tempted by City and Chelsea, the then agents of Moriba, the Stellar Group company, forced the Barça club to sign an unprecedented contract for a youth squad: close of 700,000 euros per season. Of course, it had a buyout clause of 100 million. His new manager, Rogon, repeated the same strategy. This time, the Barça did not yield. “If he does not renew (the contract expired next season), he stays the whole season in the stands and trains with youth B”, they assured in the Camp Nou offices.
His father and his representative had already agreed to leave Leipzig and we cared that the footballer did not play for a year. Moriba, on the other hand, thought the opposite. So Tottenham got in the way. The German club did not want to lose the Barça squad and raised the original offer, which was six million. Moriba had debuted last season in the first team. He played 18 games, scored one goal and signed three assists.
Two seasons ago, Barcelona agreed with Atlético de Mineiro to sign Emerson for 12 million. The Barça club, then, agreed with Betis for the Andalusian club to take over half of the transfer in exchange for the footballer playing for Benito Villamarín. Barça played back the Brazilian side this summer for nine million. Betis, meanwhile, kept 20% of a future sale. Less than two months later, Barcelona and Betis make money with Emerson. Tottenham will pay 25 million euros, plus five in variables for the São Paulo defender. Emerson played three games (a total of 90 minutes) for Koeman’s Barcelona.
