The official Iranian news agency (IRNA) announced on Saturday the death of Abolhassan Bani-Sadr, the country’s first elected president after the Iranian Islamic revolution of 1979.
The Iranian agency said Bani-Sadr died at the age of 88 in a hospital in the French capital, Paris.
Bani-Sadr, born March 22, 1933 in the city of Hamadan, was among the repatriates from Paris with the leader of the revolution, the Shiite religious leader Khomeini, after the 1979 revolution.
He served as the country’s president from February 5, 1980 to June 20, 1981.
However, he was dismissed from his post due to disagreements with the Iranian regime and Khomeini, and he left for Paris in 1981 where he led his life until his last days.
