The number of victims of the fire at the Hashem juice plant in the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka, has risen to 52.
Dhaka Fire Service spokesman Debasish Bardhan reported hospitalization of at least 50 employees of the enterprise.
According to him, at the time of the fire, the workers were unable to leave the building on time due to the locked doors, which led to an increase in the number of victims.
The reasons for the fire have not yet been established. However, it became known that the presence of plastics and other flammable materials at the plant increased the scale of the tragedy.
There is a possibility that the number of victims could rise.
A large number of people die at factories in Bangladesh every year, which is largely due to the fact that some of them are located in dilapidated buildings with undeveloped infrastructure.
A fire in an apartment building in Dhaka in 2010 killed 123 people. It soon emerged that chemicals were illegally stored in the basement of the building.
