Baku denies Tehran’s claims on border situation

Azerbaijan does not accept the statements of the Iranian side about the presence of any third forces near the Azerbaijani-Iranian border and the provocative actions of these forces. These statements have no basis whatsoever.

The head of the press service of the Foreign Ministry Leyla Abdullayeva recalled the words of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir Abdollahiyan, that relations between the peoples of the two countries are at the highest level.

Abdullayeva noted that, unfortunately, even during the 44-day Patriotic War, some parties absolutely groundlessly voiced such claims: “We declared at that time, and now we repeat that such claims have no basis, and to this day the Azerbaijani side has not been provided with a single proof in this regard, ”he said.

“The inviolability of internationally recognized borders is one of the fundamental principles that Azerbaijan is always guided by. It is known that it was Azerbaijan that for decades suffered from the military occupation of part of its territories and the violation of international borders. In particular, more than 130 km of the border with Iran was under Armenian occupation for many years. Unfortunately, over the years we have not heard the same categorical reaction of a friendly Iranian state in connection with the occupation of a part of our border, ”the diplomat said.

According to Abdullayeva, in general, Azerbaijan is a supporter of establishing relations with all countries precisely on the basis of mutual respect for international borders.
