Baku and Bishkek aim to deepen bilateral cooperation

The foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan signed a document on a joint cooperation program for 2021-2022.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said this on Friday at a press conference following a meeting in an expanded format with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev in Baku.

The Foreign Minister noted that at the meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart, a wide range of issues related to bilateral and multilateral relations were discussed.

In particular, according to Bayramov, the main attention was paid to the activation of trade and economic relations.

“The trade turnover between the countries in January-May this year increased by 65 percent compared to the same period last year. These indicators cannot satisfy us. We discussed the issue of holding a meeting of the intergovernmental commission, ”the diplomat said.

Bayramov believes that the interest of Kyrgyzstan can be attracted by the East-West transport corridor passing through Azerbaijan.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan also met with the administration of the Alat free economic zone, which will be created in Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani minister noted the importance of the resumption of air communication between the two countries after the complete normalization of the epidemiological situation, as well as the development of mutual humanitarian ties.

Bayramov noted that the meeting also touched upon the issue of close cooperation within the framework of international structures and support for joint initiatives.
