Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Matri Jayan Arogya Yojana, AB-PMJAY: Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is being expanded in the country from Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch health insurance coverage for all senior citizens aged 70 years and above under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana on the occasion of Dhanvantari Jayanti and 9th Ayurveda Day. This information was given by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in a statement on Monday.
After the expansion of Ayushman Bharat Yojana, all people above 70 years of age in the country will get free health insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh. With the launch of the scheme, the process of making a new Ayushman card can also begin. People above 70 years of age from all sections including poor, rich, middle and upper middle class will be able to apply for the card.
How will people above 70 years of age be able to get Ayushman card made?
According to Aadhaar card, any citizen of 70 years of age and above will be able to apply to get a free health coverage card of Rs 5 lakh under the extended Ayushman Bharat scheme.This is an application based scheme. Senior people eligible for the card will have to register by visiting the PMJAY portal or Ayushman App. On this Sunday, quoting official sources, news agency PTI-Bhasha reported thatPeople who already have Ayushman card will have to apply again for a new card and complete their eKYC.
Senior citizens aged 70 years and above who belong to families already covered under AB PM-JAY will get an additional top-up cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per year (which they will not share with other family members Who are below 70 years of age).All other senior citizens will get a cover of up to Rs 5 lakh every year on a family basis.
Senior citizens aged 70 years and above who are in private health insurance schemes or Employees State Insurance Scheme can avail the benefits of this scheme.However, those who are already availing the benefits of other public health insurance schemes such as Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) and Ayushman Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) can choose their existing scheme. Or you can choose the option of AB PM-JAY.
Elderly people above 70 years of age who have this Ayushman card will be able to get free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in hospitals associated with AB PMJAY. It is being told that about 6 crore citizens of about 4.5 crore families will benefit from the expansion of Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Let us inform you that till September 1, 2024, a total of 29,648 hospitals across the country have been empaneled under PMJAY, which includes 12,696 private hospitals. This scheme is currently applicable in 33 states and union territories except Delhi, Odisha and West Bengal.

During the event organized tomorrow at the Delhi-based All India Institute of Ayurveda campus, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several projects worth about Rs 12,850 crore to boost healthcare infrastructure. During this time the Prime Minister will also launch the U-Win portal. This will benefit pregnant women and infants by making the vaccination process completely digital. This will ensure timely administration of life-saving vaccines against 12 vaccine-preventable diseases to pregnant women and children (birth to 16 years). Apart from this, the Prime Minister will also launch a portal for allied health professionals and institutions. It will act as a centralized database of existing health professionals and institutions.
