The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Burundi, Sylvestre Nyandwi, accused a “group of terrorists” operating from abroad to be behind grenade attacks perpetrated in Bujumbura and Gitega, we learned from one. statement broadcast on state radio Wednesday evening.
“According to the results of our investigations, these attacks were orchestrated by a group of Burundian terrorists acting from outside the country”, declared the public prosecutor.
According to the Attorney General, Alexis Sinduhije, president of the Movement for Solidarity and Democracy (MSD) party is at the head of this group.
The attorney general also cited François Nyamoya, secretary general of the MSD and Marguerite Barankitse, founder of Maison Shalom for the reception of orphans.
Gitega has issued international arrest warrants against them.
“We have issued international arrest warrants against them and we ask the countries that host them to deliver them and the countries of the East African Community (EAC) and the International Conference for the Great Lakes Region. , ICGLR, to lend us a hand so that these people are arrested ”, declared Sylvestre Nyandwi.
As a reminder, grenade attacks targeted, on Monday, the central parking lot of Bujumbura and the surroundings of the Jabe market, Mukaza commune, in the center of the economic capital.
Qualifying these grenade attacks as terrorist acts, Prime Minister Alain-Guillaume Bunyoni drew up a toll of two dead and 104 injured on Tuesday.
The president of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Moussa Faki Mahamat, also condemned, Wednesday morning, “these criminal acts whose actors must be found and brought to justice”.
