Parminder followed in his father’s footsteps and won a medal at the Asian Games, 21 years after Inderpal Singh won a bronze medal in the men’s coxless four at Busan 2002. “I started sailing because of my father, so to be able to follow him and win a medal is incredible,” Parminder said after winning the bronze medal.
Asian Games 2023: Indian sailor Parminder Singh returned disappointed after finishing sixth in the men’s double sculls final. Parminder and his partner Satnam Singh were placed second. However, they later dropped to sixth and last position. He felt he might have to wait four more years to fulfill his dream of winning a medal at the Asian Games and emulating his father Inderpal Singh, who had won a bronze medal at the 2002 Busan Asian Games but was commissioned into the Indian Navy at 23. The year-old officer did not lose courage and created history for India by winning the bronze medal in the men’s quadruple sculls on Monday.
