Gabriel Martinelli’s double gave Arsenal an official victory over Leeds United. Twenty-year-old Martinelli’s goals came in the 16th and 28th minutes. Twenty-year-old Bukayo Saka (42nd minute) and twenty-one-year-old Emily Smith Roy (84th minute) completed the scoring for Arsenal. Rafinha’s penalty goal (75th minute) was scored by Leeds.
Of the 27 goals Arsenal have scored so far this season, 14 are for players under the age of 21. That means more than 50 percent of goals are scored by players under the age of 21. This is the first time in Premier League history that players under the age of 21 have scored so many goals for a club since the 1999-2000 season.
Arsenal scored 11 shots on target in the first 45 minutes against Leeds. This is the first such attack in the first 45 minutes of the Premier League since 2003-2004. Arsenal made a total of 12 shots on target during the match. In short, there was only one in the second half.
With the win, Arsenal are fourth in the league with 32 points from 18 matches. West Ham United are fifth with 28 points from 17 matches. Manchester United are sixth with 27 points from 16 matches. Manchester City (41 points), Liverpool (40 points) and Chelsea (37 points) are in the top three with 17 matches each.
